Pregnant Women Travelling

Pregnant women may travel but there are several aspects of travel during pregnancy which should be recognized. Air travel should not be undertaken after 26 weeks and then until 7 days after delivery. Many airlines place restrictions on pregnant women travelling during this time frame, contact the airline for further information on restrictions.

Except for live vaccines, immunizations are acceptable during pregnancy. Drugs that may be prescribed for non-pregnant travelers which are unacceptable to pregnant women include antibiotics containing sulfa, ciprofloxacin, mefloquine and doxycycline. Contact your Doctor or Practise Nurse at least 8 - 10 weeks before date of travel to ask about vaccines during pregnacy.
